Pretty Pouts

From New York to Paris, designers sent pretty lips in standout shades down the runways. At Carolina Herrera, MAC makeup artist Diane Kendal played around with five different shades of lipstick. For the Burberry show, Wendy Rowe gave models matte bright crimson lips. And at Dolce & Gabbana, Pat McGrath worked her magic. The result: a sultry wine-stained pout.

For spring, designers have inspired us to pump up the volume on our pouts.

Street Style Inspiration :: Olivia Palermo in Paris

It’s no secret that Olivia Palermo is one of my all-time favourite style muses. When it comes to poise and putting together the perfect outfit, Olivia penned the manual. For the Spring 2015 shows in Paris, the New York native served up her signature polished style for our viewing pleasure.

Spring 2015 :: Lashing Out

Lashes reached new lengths at the Spring 2015 shows. Models batted doll-like lashes at Altuzarra and Paul & Joe while super clumpy lashes appeared at DSquared2 and Emilio Pucci. Faux lashes were aflutter at Nanette Lepore and Moschino.

For the doll-like eyes at Rochas, makeup artist Lucia Peroni told Allure: “We’re putting loads and loads of mascara on and kind of squashing them together so they’re a little bit like thorns. We’re also putting a little dot underneath the eye to give you that kind of slightly startled and slightly deranged look.”

Keep those mascara wands handy.

Mascara picks:

+ COVERGIRL LashBlast Volume Mascara: I tried this one after a friend raved about it and it’s now my go-to mascara in either Very Black or Black Brown. It gives me gorgeous voluminous lashes and I’ve never had a problem with smudging!

+ Smashbox Full Exposure: I love how it makes my lashes appear longer and fuller.

+ MAC In Extreme Dimension Lash: I tried this on in-store and fell in love immediately. The lightweight whipped formula feels amazing and the brush is designed to coat, lengthen and separate each lash perfectly.

+ Buxom Mascara Bar: With seven brushes to choose from, how can you go wrong. It comes with the volumizing Vanity Lash Mascara formula and it’s paraben-free.

L’Oréal Voluminous Million Lashes: I’ve heard amazing things about this drugstore mascara. It’s clump-free, fragrance-free and suitable for sensitive eyes and contact lens-wearers.

Style Inspiration :: Miroslava Duma at Spring 2015

mira in coat

When fashion week season rolls around, I always look forward to Miroslava Duma’s risk-taking style. When the founder of Buro 24/7 steps out, street style photographers Tommy Ton, Youngjun Koo, Phil Oh and Scott Schuman aren’t far behind. For the Spring 2015 shows, the mother-to-be opted for a slew of beautiful coats, dresses and heels (ninety-five per cent of the time).

This season’s favourites: the black tank dress topped with a camel coat in New York, the embellished coat paired with Converse sneakers in Milan, and the houndstooth wool dress, the leopard print coat and the blue Valentino cape in Paris.

Spring 2015 :: Denim Delight

For Spring 2015, designers breathed new life into an old classic.

In New York, we spotted patchwork denim pieces at Tommy Hilfiger and dark denim at Michael Kors. On the London runways, models got cozy in shearling-trimmed indigo denim jackets from Burberry Prorsum. In Milan, rhinestone-studded boyfriend jeans sparkled at Dolce & Gabbana while denim joined the military at Gucci. And finally in the City of Light, denim overalls made an appearance at Sonia Rykiel and denim dresses and skirts went to great lengths at Chloe and Stella McCartney.

It’s safe to say that denim days are here to stay.

But the denim love didn’t end there.

On the streets of New York, London, Milan and Paris, show-goers remained true to their blues; dashing around in dark wash and light wash styles, destroyed boyfriend and skinny jeans, denim cut-offs, patchwork blues and jean jackets emblazoned with colourful patches, cuffed straight-leg jeans, denim overalls, and frayed chambray dresses and button-downs.

Now I’ve got a serious case of the blues. What’s your favourite way to style denim?

PFW Spring 2015 :: Models Off Duty

Fashion month is winding down and Paris gave us a finale for the books. For his final ready-to-wear runway show, legendary Parisian designer Jean Paul Gaultier said goodbye to ready-to-wear with a beauty pageant like no other. For Chanel’s Spring 2015 show, the models made a statement in Karl Lagerfeld’s mock feminist street protest. Off the runway, Caroline Brasch Nielsen, Anna Ewers, Andreea Diaconu, Natalia Vodianova, Aymeline Valade and company turned up the Parisian chic.

MFW Spring 2015 :: The Eye’s the Limit

For Spring 2015, the beauty looks spotted on the runways of New York and London were all about wet, slicked-back hair and minimal makeup. In Milan, designers shifted focus. From graphic baby blue liner fashioned from thin leather strips at Fendi to artful winged cat-eyes and skinny brows at Prada, the overarching view – beauty lies in the eyes.

MFW Spring 2015 :: Models Off Duty

The models have packed their bags and jetted off to Paris, but we’re still swooning over their incredible off-duty style in Milan. Coco Rocha, Alessandra Ambrosia, Anna Ewers, Larissa Hofmann, Joan Smalls, Mijo Mihaljcic, and Daria Strokous all gave us their best Italian chic both on and off the runway.

Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2015

dolce backstage

For Spring 2015, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana were inspired by Spain’s influence on Sicilian culture. Models marched out in exquisitely embroidered matador jackets paired with high-waisted bloomer shorts, crisp white bullfighter shirts, polka dot flamenco-style dresses, and fringed ponchos.

Dolce’s signature embellishments – jewels, lace and embroidery were front and centre. The sacred heart, the main symbol of the collection was embroidered onto Spanish lace dresses, cummerbunds and an opulent gold bustier. Boyfriend jeans received the royal touch with rhinestones while embroidered roses climbed up the front of black stockings. Hair was slicked back into severe, centre-parted chignons and adorned with fresh red roses and carnations.

True to form, the show ended on a high note with an army of models wearing crisp white shirts tucked into high-waisted scarlet shorts.

MFW Spring 2015 :: Bold Street Style

It’s day 4 of Milan Fashion Week and the fashion crowd show no signs of slowing down. Playing it safe has no place in Milan. The city’s street style is all about having fun and adopting a playful attitude – glamorous sequins, bold prints and colours, embellishments and accessories galore.

Bloggers Chiara Ferragni and Helena Bordon channeled their inner Barbie girl in head-to-toe hot pink Moschino (adorable accessories included) while Anna Dello Russo wowed us in a larger than life gown. Here’s a roundup of standout looks from the streets of Milan.
