Spring Jackets

Today is the perfect spring day. The sun is shining, the sky is the most brilliant shade of blue, and there is a bit of a chill in the air. But the weather can be a bit unpredictable this time of year, so I won’t be packing away my snow boots and winter coat just yet.

In the meantime,  I’ve been hunting down jackets and coats to get me through the winter to spring transition. Here are 10 jackets I’ve got my eye on this season…

Blanket Scarves

The days are getting chillier and most of the trees are bare and before we know it, everything will be blanketed in snow. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I’m actually excited for the temperature to drop just a wee bit more so I can wrap up in a blanket scarf. I absolutely love scarves and it’s my personal belief that you can never have too many. (I won’t tell you how many are hanging in my closet.)

If you’re looking for the perfect accessory to protect you from bone-chilling temps and whipping winds, I’ve got you covered with this roundup of super cozy blanket scarves…

Get Cozy :: Perfect Ponchos

It’s November, the temperature is sitting at a balmy 17 degrees celcius, and I’m here sipping on a ginger beer tea pop from Davids Tea. I’m making the most of this beautiful weather as The Weather Network just informed me it won’t be sticking around much longer.

As we transition from fall to winter, it’s getting trickier and trickier to figure out what to throw on before running out the door. Lately, I’ve noticed women on the streets of Toronto sporting ponchos and it seems like the perfect in-between option. This versatile throw-over piece took centre stage at the Chanel, Chloé, and Rebecca Minkoff Fall 2015 shows.

I’m looking to ponchos to satisfy my layering needs during this unpredictable season. Here are 10 favourites I’ve spotted around the web…

Fall Inspiration :: The Camel Coat

If there’s one lesson we learned from the Fall 2014 runways, it’s that camel comes in many shades. From New York to Paris, designers gave us a plethora of camel outerwear to choose from – fur-collared, belted and oversized versions led the herd. Here’s a roundup of camel coat inspiration from the streets of New York, London, Paris, Sweden, and Moscow…

Pretty Pouts

From New York to Paris, designers sent pretty lips in standout shades down the runways. At Carolina Herrera, MAC makeup artist Diane Kendal played around with five different shades of lipstick. For the Burberry show, Wendy Rowe gave models matte bright crimson lips. And at Dolce & Gabbana, Pat McGrath worked her magic. The result: a sultry wine-stained pout.

For spring, designers have inspired us to pump up the volume on our pouts.

Street Style Inspiration :: Olivia Palermo in Paris

It’s no secret that Olivia Palermo is one of my all-time favourite style muses. When it comes to poise and putting together the perfect outfit, Olivia penned the manual. For the Spring 2015 shows in Paris, the New York native served up her signature polished style for our viewing pleasure.

Spring 2015 :: Lashing Out

Lashes reached new lengths at the Spring 2015 shows. Models batted doll-like lashes at Altuzarra and Paul & Joe while super clumpy lashes appeared at DSquared2 and Emilio Pucci. Faux lashes were aflutter at Nanette Lepore and Moschino.

For the doll-like eyes at Rochas, makeup artist Lucia Peroni told Allure: “We’re putting loads and loads of mascara on and kind of squashing them together so they’re a little bit like thorns. We’re also putting a little dot underneath the eye to give you that kind of slightly startled and slightly deranged look.”

Keep those mascara wands handy.

Mascara picks:

+ COVERGIRL LashBlast Volume Mascara: I tried this one after a friend raved about it and it’s now my go-to mascara in either Very Black or Black Brown. It gives me gorgeous voluminous lashes and I’ve never had a problem with smudging!

+ Smashbox Full Exposure: I love how it makes my lashes appear longer and fuller.

+ MAC In Extreme Dimension Lash: I tried this on in-store and fell in love immediately. The lightweight whipped formula feels amazing and the brush is designed to coat, lengthen and separate each lash perfectly.

+ Buxom Mascara Bar: With seven brushes to choose from, how can you go wrong. It comes with the volumizing Vanity Lash Mascara formula and it’s paraben-free.

L’Oréal Voluminous Million Lashes: I’ve heard amazing things about this drugstore mascara. It’s clump-free, fragrance-free and suitable for sensitive eyes and contact lens-wearers.

Street Style Inspiration :: Grey sweatshirt + metallic skirt

garance dore in grey sweatshirtleigh lezark in grey sweatshirt

Garance Dore and Leigh Lezark school us on the proper way to wear metallics before the sun goes down – pair a metallic skirt with a simple grey sweatshirt.

For fall 2014, Diane von Furstenberg sent out short metallic wrap dresses while gold and silver bags shone at Prada. Models’ eyes got the glittery treatment at Dior and Altuzarra while golden manicures showed up at Tadashi Shoji. At Mara Hoffman, the tips of braids were dipped in gold while at Suno, models sported gold centre parts.

I really love this metallic pleated skirt by Mango.

Are you on board with this trend?

Style Inspiration :: Miroslava Duma at Spring 2015

When fashion week season rolls around, I always look forward to Miroslava Duma’s risk-taking style. When the founder of Buro 24/7 steps out, street style photographers Tommy Ton, Youngjun Koo, Phil Oh and Scott Schuman aren’t far behind. For the Spring 2015 shows, the mother-to-be opted for a slew of beautiful coats, dresses and heels (ninety-five per cent of the time).

This season’s favourites: the black tank dress topped with a camel coat in New York, the embellished coat paired with Converse sneakers in Milan, and the houndstooth wool dress, the leopard print coat and the blue Valentino cape in Paris.
