Last night, I watched the Dolce & Gabbana AW14 runway show. The designers created pure magic. From the moment the music started, I knew I was gonna love it. The show opened with falling snow, an enchanted forest bathed in an eerie light and the sounds of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker soundtrack wafting through the venue. All these details set the mood for Stefano and Domenico’s fashion fairytale aptly titled, ‘Enchanted Sicily’.
The designers drew inspiration from childhood favourites like Little Red Riding Hood. A model came out in a red fox fur-covered cape and later on, in a dress with swaths of chiffon, billowing sleeves and fox fur hood. The Secret Garden also played a key role (pun intended) with chiffon dresses done in a skeleton key print and a new Dolce & Gabbana bag fitted with a padlock.
They created looks that were opulent but very wearable. Medieval-style dresses were adorned with flowers, trees, foxes and owls. Structured capes with fur hoods and bejeweled balaclavas ruled the runway as did chiffon maxi dresses in bright red, purple and white topped with fur hood.
Accessories dripped with crystals and pearls. Models came down the runway wearing jewel-encrusted flats and pearl-embellished knee-high boots. Cross-body and handheld bags were crafted out of luxurious marble, velvet and leather. Even balaclavas and fingerless gloves received the medieval touch.
Also, here are my favourite looks from the show:
The show ended happily ever after with an army of girls marching down the runway in show-stopping mini dresses and rompers.
